The admissions folks really should be politicians. I think this warrants review of a conversation you and I had almost two years ago, where, during this hell-ish process, I asked you, since you've been in a position of hiring young people over the course of your storied career, the age-old question: "Does it really matter where your brat, sorry, little darling, goes to college?" Your answer was thoughtful and provided insight: "No one gives a sh*t where you went to college." Of course, there are a handful of exceptions (Harvard, Yale), and your brat, sorry, little darling, doesn't want to hear that sh*t when they get 'wait listed' (which is the new orange for 'rejected') at College. But it really is critical that they understand that it's far more important that they go to a place where they fit and that fits them, which the Universe is telling them may not be College. So. There you have it.
And there's more! If the college doesn't look at SAT or ACT scores, they might actively look at scores on other tests, like APs. Please check out all the resources we offer at my work, esp recordings of two recent webinars with admissions leaders. https://jeffselingo.com Happy Thanksgiving!
Hi Margie - your & Jeff's content has been invaluable as we've gone through this, so thank you for all that. This process is insane and hilarious and sad and hysterical - I'm kinda jealous you get to write it about it all the time...
lol. I have been through this with three children and you sum up the process pretty well. There is no need for the SAT/ACT standardized tests, but, as with a lot of things in this world, it's all about the $$$. College Board generates more than $1B in revenue annually from SAT, PSAT, and AP exams and selling student data the collect during the process.
This one's gonna go viral. Happy Thanksgiving!
Can you be my social media intern and make that happen? :)
Totes. I just put it on my Instastory. I hope it doesn't crash Substack.
So, some people say, while those same people say...
Sometimes one person is both people.

Damn, I really am smart.
Yes, smrt, like Homer Simpson.

"We are trying to get them to no longer live in our apartment, so we have been visiting colleges" - my favorite sentence I will read today, I'm sure.
